honeymoon epilogue

Day 11
may 23rd-24
Goodbye Nevis! we had such a wonderful honeymoon. The trip back was LONG! On may 23 we said goodbye to the beautiful island of Nevis and headed on the ferry back to St. Kitts. Daisy picked us up on the other side and drove us to the airport. There was a HUGE rock in the road, which was super freaky. We arrived in Miami around 6pm and made it through customs pretty quick. We stayed overnight in Miami so that we could catch the only non stop flight of the day back to seattle- the only hitch was that they didn't actually book us on the right flight.. we ended up in Chicago (AUTOMATIC TOILET SEAT COVERS!!!) which I was upset about for a while.. then I remembered how much I loved Chicago because of it's automatic toilet seat covers...so suddenly everything was ok. We finally made it home around 1:30 PM our time. It was so nice to be cold! April picked us up at the airport and took us to pick up our car. We finally made it home around 6:30pm and opened our wedding presents! I couldn't wait :P. It was so fun!

Day 10

Day 10-our last full day on the island
May 22, 2012

Woke up a little bit early and had some breakfast of random foods... trying to eat up all the leftovers! Then sat around in the sun for a few hours. Swam in the pool then ate our indian food leftovers for lunch. Definitely a lazy day!
Around 3pm we headed out for our last little trip around the island. Then we came back home and swam until dark then headed to the yachtsman for dinner. We both had delicious steak and chocolate cake for dessert. Then we headed back home. It was a little sad realizing that it was our last time in town. But I think Jake is ready to be away from all the bugs. They're eating him alive!

Day 9

Day 9
May 21,2012

We woke up early and headed out to pick up a rental 4x4 at 9 am. The guy at the rental place gave us a map of a whole bunch of places to go around the island. We started off at a place called lovers beach, which is really only accessible on foot or a small 4x4. It was so beautiful! The sand was white and the waves were the prettiest I've seen yet. Then we headed down the road again and found a little road heading to the beach so we took it. We ended up on a cliff overlooking the water.. and also found a dead goat. so we left there pretty quick and headed back. Jake started driving REALLY fast and having way too much fun. We explored some more roads and went almost to the top of Mt Heaven.

We had the car for a total of 4 hours so at 1 we headed back to the rental place and dropped off the car. Then we had lunch at the yachtsman(obviously our favorite place on the island) and headed back to the bungalow. We were both super hot so we were about to go for a swim when Jake realized he'd left his ring in the bathroom at the yachtsman. He rushed back and was able to get it. Then we swam and swam for hours. I took a nap and Jake played angry birds then we went swimming again. We finally got out of the pool when the sun went down. Then we got ready and went to Indian Summer. Jake was nervous about eating indian food but I convinced him and he was a sport about it. He loved it! His was super spicy.
We headed back and tried as hard as we could to stay up late, but still ended up falling asleep around 10pm. I think the reason we go to bed so early is because the sun goes down around 6:30pm. Its ok though because we're usually up by 7:30 or 8.

Day 8

Day 8
May 20, 2012

Today was great! We woke up kinda early and ate a light breakfast then went for a swim. Then we headed to Pinney's beach to jetski! It was so much fun! Jake didn't really like it quite as much because he'd never really been on one and he didn't like the deep water. But I loved it! Then we went to Yachtsman for lunch(again) and then went over to check out the 4x4 rentals. While I was walking across the street it went from sunshine to torrential downpour in a matter of seconds. Luckily Jake saw me cross the street and drove over to rescue me. It stopped as soon as it started and was sunny the rest of the day.

We went back to the bungalow and swam and I finished another book(my 3rd this trip) and then called around to find something open for dinner. The whole town pretty much shuts down on sundays. we found " pizza on the beach", so we headed there. The instructions took us down what looked like a deserted road but eventually we came to a really cute pizza place. We ordered to go and explored the restaurant a little. We were pretty much the only ones there.
We ate our pizza and watched Pirates of the Caribbean. It felt like a very caribbean experience!

Day 7

Day 7
May 19, 2012
I can't believe it's already been a week! It all went by so fast!
Yesterday jake and I got up and had breakfast a little earlier than normal. I read and he played games on his phone then we went swimming for a really long time. We're kind of like little kids when it comes to the pool. We swim around like dorks with our snorkel masks on and race and see who can do the coolest underwater aerobics.

After that we headed to Lime and I had my first lobster! It was yummy but not my favorite. Definitely very buttery and garlicy! Jake got ribs again... which was a bad choice. Last time they made him sick and they did again this time. I don't think he's used to that much ginger. It definitely made me queezy when I ate it. Plus I don't really like ginger.
Then we went shopping for a while and looked for more shops. We bought some aloe vera because I got another sunburn and came home.
For dinner, we went to Coconut Grove and both had beef bourgongion and fettuccine. It was delicious! Then they brought us desert and wrote on it happy honeymoon. It was really nice of them!
We went to bed around 10 pm but I woke up in the night and found another cockroach in the kitchen. Because I was half awake it managed to escape and crawl into a little hole. Oops. I'm guessing we'll find it in a shoe this morning.

day 6

Day 6
Today we woke up moderately early and had a light breakfast of fruit and yogurt. Then we headed to the pool for a while so the cleaning lady could clean the house. After that we headed out to town to go get some lunch. We ate at Yachtsmans which was delicious! Definitely the best bargain in town. Then we headed around for some shopping and found a pretty big store. It was a lot like safeway and had a ton of stuff from the states. It's kind of funny that most of the stuff we eat here is actually from the states. Even a lot of the fruit.
After that we headed home and went snorkeling. While we were putting on our gear an older guy from Scotland came and talked to us for a bit. He and his wife are staying here with their niece on the other side of the island. He told us a little bit about Scotland and compared here to there. We told him about Washington(he's been to New York and New Jersey). Then he went on his merry way and we went on ours. The water was still a little murky but we did see a pretty cool starfish. Jake and I ventured out a little further than usual. We didn't see any sharks, so I'm guessing tomorrow we'll be even more brave. We actually saw someone super far out snorkeling and they told us that there hadn't been any attacks on this side of the island since they can remember, but we're still cautious.

After that we came back to the bungalow and went swimming in our pool for a while. Then we BBQ'd some chicken and I read a book while Jake played angry birds space.. which he discovered on my phone so he downloaded it and now is obsessed with it. We're both getting a tiny bit homesick. Mostly just at night when it's so hot we can barely sleep. The rest of the time we don't really ever want to leave here!

Day 4

Day 4
May 17th, 2012
Today we woke up at a reasonable time and headed out with our snorkeling gear to explore the island. Instead of going left like we usually do, we headed right. our first stop was Herbert's Beach, which was supposed to be great for snorkeling. The waves were too high and there was no one else around, so we headed back. Our next stop was supposed to be another beach, but we ended up in the parking lot of a small college. We headed out again and passed "Coconut Walk Sugar Mill", so we drove in and discovered an awesome old sugar distillary. We walked a little further and found some old ruins covered in vines that looked like they could be from Greece. The road to the distillary looked like it headed further toward the beach, so we took it. We ended up next to a contruction site, but we carried on. When we came to a clearing, we could see the beach and something in the distance, but we couldn't figure out what it was. We first thought deer or goats, but eventually we discovered they were wild donkeys! It was so beautiful, with the wild donkeys running around on the beach by the ruins. I got so many pictures! Then we found some kind of old mill with steps that led way up so I climbed those and took some pictures. We kept driving and almost drove to a little rocky beach, but decided it was as far as our little "jeep"(a suzuki) would take us. We made a loop and found some more donkeys, then headed back to the road. We passed through a smaller town on the other side of the island and found a fairly good size store called "best buy". No, it didn't sell electronics.. We decided to loop back around later and do some shopping. We continued on to Charlestown. The whole island was so beautiful. We took so many pictures!
When we reached Charlestown, we parked at a little store and walked to "Gallows Bay" because it was supposed to be great for snorkeling. It looked really pretty, but we decided not to snorkel so we headed back into town. We found a Chinese restaurant and decided to try it out. When we got inside we found Katherine, the manager of the bungalows. We talked to her while we ate our chinese food. She told us all about Mt Nevis and about how long she'd been here on the island. She's lived here about 13 years. Right in the begining I caught her say "ewt" instead of "out", so I asked her if she was canadian. She said she was from the area above Lake Superior, but that she has dual citizenship. She travels back to visit about once a year.
After we ate lunch we went nextdoor for some home made ice cream. it was delicious! then we headed back the other around the island to "best buy" to finish up our trip and head back home. it started raining like crazy while we were shopping, but by the time we were done it had stopped. By the time we got home we were both drenched in sweat so we headed to Oualie Bay for some snorkeling. We only snorkeled for a little while because the water was too cloudy.
For dinner, we went to a little restaurant called "Lime" which mean to hang out to relax in Island lingo. It was delicious! Jake had their special rum drink called "Green Flash". We both had baby back ribs, rice and some fries. The owner was really nice!

After that we headed back to the bungalow. It started to rain while we were driving, which we didn't think much of. Apparently we should've, because around midnight it started pouring down and got super windy. We ran around trying to close all the shutters. Jake managed to almost squish a gecko. He said he heard it say "I'll save you money on car...OOWWW" as he almost squished it. I don't believe him. It stormed all through the rest of the night and we woke up to a huuuuge puddle under the bed. Horray!
